What's needed for Zero Accident Mission - Addl Inputs

Below are your collective inputs on what is needed for achieving Zero Accident Mission in Railways. Please review and share any additional inputs you may have. We will be soon compiling this whitepaper for Railway Minister and the Senior Leadership.

What's needed for Zero Accident Mission

1. The tracks with over service life of 10 years shall be checked for cracks using NDT methods
2. Many prestigious trains run with very old coaches, life over 30 years – these should be upgraded
3. Collision Avoidance System should be installed in trains
4. Speed governors shall be installed to ensure speed limitation
5. All the fire accidents that have taken place during last 5 years should be analysed and preventive actions should be taken accordingly
6. Old bridges should also be repaired and made ‘train fit’
7. Fencing should be done at identified stations to prevent the passengers from crossing the tracks
8. Derailment should be addressed by defining programmed speed at various locations using GPS systems and other technologies
9. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification ) technology can be explored effectively as a double standard for signal management apart from present setup
10. Unmanned level crossings should be made more secure
11. The railway engines should be compatible to sensors which will detect any damage of railway track ahead
12. There is strict quality control needed on material, parts and instruments purchased. more

Now the most important for Railways is do the fencing of the railway stations, to avoid citizens penetrating into the railway station unauthorized. To have sky walks in all railway stations, for safe walking. Cleaner waiting rooms, with all facilities, since citizens are waiting for longer journey's. Examine the tracks and replace them. Better electronic vying systems, more detection of crimes, and less encroaching if citizens without tickets. People should realize that Railways belong to them. more
H.N.Chatterjee(Retd Chief Engineer)In addition to above following points also need consideration:-1.Permissible speed of trains after the repair of old tracks also required to be evaluated to monitor the speed.2.
