Where can Railways make refund possible for travelers

Scenarios where you won't get a single rupee for your ticket cancellation with current policies. We should give feedback to Railways as to where they can make a refund to customer with the condition that there profitability is maintained or increased.

1. Tatkal ticket: You can book a Tatkal ticket just a day before the date of journey. If you have a confirmed Tatkal ticket and you want to cancel it, you won't get any refund. If your Tatkal ticket is in waiting then according to railway rules some amount will be deducted and the rest will be refunded to you.

2. Confirmed ticket: If you haven't cancelled your confirmed ticket four hours prior to the commencement of the train and not filed TDR (ticket deposit receipt), then no refund will be initiated.

3. RAC e-ticket: If you have RAC (reservation against cancellation) e-ticket and you didn't cancel it 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of the train, then you won't get any refund.

4. I- ticket with waiting: An I-ticket can be cancelled from computerised passenger reservation system (PRS) counter 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train. That's true for RAC or waiting tickets too. No refund will be generated after that.

5. If the train is three hours late or the passenger didn't board the train: If the ticket is cancelled after the train's stipulated time of departure, no refund will be provided under circumstances of cancellation or surrender of the ticket.

6. Booking in a premium special train: According to IRCTC rules for premium special trains, confirmed or RAC ticket cancellation is not allowed. The ticket can only be cancelled if the train has been cancelled.

7. Partially confirmed e-tickets: If the ticket is not cancelled 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of the train and TDR is not filed, then no refund will be generated (if a passenger is not travelling). The same rule applies for RAC and waiting tickets too.

8. I-ticket gets lost: If your I-ticket gets lost, then you can't avail of cancellation. However, railways can issue you a duplicate I-ticket.

9. If the ticket is in RAC after the chart is prepared: If your ticket is in RAC and you don't cancel the ticket or file a TDR before 30 minutes of the scheduled departure of the train then no refund will be provided. more

Railways is doing a great service to the nation. Let us not find fault for no reason. yes, there are some areas like timings which need to be addressed, but that is something we can provide suggestions for solutions. Let us not criticize just for the sake of it. more
As I remember, the rules for cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets have been amended last year and 50% of the cost of the tickets are now refundable. more
Several times when a ticket is booked it results in wait list . If it continues to be in WL after preparation of the chart, the ticket gets automatically cancelled. There also irctc deducts cancellation charges. The cancellation here is done by IRCTC. Applying cancellation charges in this situation is totally unfair and unjustified. IRCTC should look into this. more
After earning so much and from everywhere possible why the Railways is still in loss ? more
u r absolutely and right . more
Bcoz of corrupt ministers and high levels officials, involved in making economically disastrous tenders for Railways more
