Who is poorer anyways?

A shocking truth I realized yesterday.
Last fortnight I had called a "Kadia" to fix my Cooking platform stone. The labor agreed to do the same and asked for Rs. 200 for the work and because since many days I have been searching for a labor and many of them had refused or were asking Rs 600/- or more for the job. hence I readily agreed.
The labor took aprox. 30 mins to complete the job.

When yesterday I sat back and thought about it:-
Rs 200 for 30 Mins = 96000 / Month, this is the salary of a 10 years experience Engineer in our country.

An this kind of work I had got done several times and many take more also, So the question arises that who is poor we or......? more

You calculated it wrong for kadia. 200 rs for just half an hour is not the key factor, yet the transportation time should have been included. The buffer time between two 200 rs work maybe even greater for this kadia as he accepted your work for less than 50% what other kadia takes. Probably he was the poorest among them striving for at least two hundred rupees a day. In India there is too much poverty. All these low wage workers are striving to improve their lives every day and every minute. You go to any government school and ask students of their parents profession and the number of dependents on their earnings. You will get the shocking data. Many students just come there for mid day meals. People like us try to use their services at low wages yet we are paying loads for smaller thing when we buy from a professional. Until and unless we understand who is poor and needy near us, we won't ever be able to change the fate of our country. more
Mr Ammar you are living in different world. There are so many examples for we are paying a lot. Did you hear a proverb? Time is money. For small reparing you require so many things and tools. Only experts are having the tools, skill to perform the work. You haven't paid a labour rs 200. But you have paid the special skill which a common man can't do personaly. Why Shahjahan cut the the fingers of the skilled man who made the the Nakshi of Tajnahal. आप राई का पहाड बना रहे हैं. Some people paying rikshawala rs 200 for just four kms distance during rain. Why? Did you get the reply? more
The poor story keeps the politicians and a lot of people in business and work. The really poor get no relief and no one cares for them at all. Auto drivers, daily labourers, kirana store owners, roadside vendors earn more than most middle class families. They drink and enjoy their money and then cry poverty because they don't save any money and believe it is their right to get everything free or with no hardwork. Poverty in India is a myth that is a propoganda machine that is promoted by politicians, activists, etc. It is a whole industry and is worth crores. This is all unaccounted money floating around not within the purview of the IT dept. The police, the various depts make money to keep the myth intact. more
India is not poor... the problem is that most do not know proper utilisation of resources. There are laborers that earn Rs.1000/- per day for 20 days a month... i.e. 20K a month... yet there is no saving as the money is spent of Tobacco, Drinks etc. They prefer to drink a Rs.15 tea in a hotel as compared to making tea at home that could cost then 1/3rd the cost. Most are highly influenced by the media to purchase brands... noodles is a choice as compared to a good healthy meal that would cost much lesser. more
