Why free passes ?

If the issue of free railway passes are justified in any way, the employees working in currency printing presses must be given free currency notes, similarly employees working in government mints must be given free coins, similarly employees working in government gold mines/gold refineries must be given free gold, similarly employees working in power plants must be given free electricity, similarly employees working in water boards must be given free water and the list is miles long. more

MAximum 2 or 3 trips in a year should be allowed. Even TTE and their family should not be allowed. No Metal pass. No attendent. No special wagon for any officer. For retired 1 or twice free pass. Only one attendent after age of 70 yrs only or major ilness. more
I think we have to deal this in a different way. In the transportation business, the free passes whether it is Airlines, Railways or Buses, the passes are given and it does not mean that since the govt. is handling this transportation business and it will have its own rules other than those followed all over the world, in that case govt. should come out of transport business and hand over to private people and then nobody can object as it is part of his profit centre area to give whatever he wants and decide on the lines of other transporters or not. Another thing that the mints should give coins etc. is a ridiculous thought. It is only a tradition of this transportation business which is being followed all over the world. It is not a tradition to give currency and coins to presses and mint workers, so it won't be considered nor followed. The only thing which requires attention here in this case is that the Railway workers who sit in the First Class are many times even drunk, which warrants for action like dismissal from the service. But the Railways is such a toothless organization which can't even dare privatize what action can be expected from it. So free passes are not a problem but the discipline is required to be enforced, that is the only way. But will Railway employees be acted upon as it is very common to see drunk workers or officials at many Railway stations mainly at night time. more
Railways are a very big organisation with millions of employees and may be with more retired staff than serving staff. Therefore privilege passes should be abolished or limited to once in a year to employees and once in two years to retired staff. Other than class I officers all other staff should be eligible only for sleeper class passes. Further travelling in a pass repeatedly without being signed by TTEs till the expiry date of the pass should be avoided by issuing pass for particular journey instead of issuing for six months/three months etc. more
The railway employees are misusing the free passes given by the railways. Why the free passes is being given to them, they are paying a nice salary nowadays the why the free passes is given. If govt. stop the passes to the employees the railway will save about more then 50crores in a year in their saving and the guns can be use in the facility to general public. The free passes is being use by the relatives of the railway employees. The TTE is also giving preferences in giving the berth to the pass holders instead of the general public. So immediate action should be taken by the railway and stop the practice of free passes to employees to stop the wrong practice. more
EMPLOYEES ARE PAID SALARIES FOR THEIR WORK with all trains running over full all the time - most people travel in waiting list tickets and have to shell out extra money to TC when a passenger gets down and seat becomes vacant because TC gives the seat to other passenger who is last in waiting list -- TTC makes money out of it , in addition to his salary , then why free passes are required -- IF RAILWAY EMPLOYEE IS going for duty then free travel is ok , OTHERWISE should not be allowed , even his family should not be allowed , IN this case employees will approval for official trip and use it for personal trips . this will also happen in many cases then why free pass required . more
